Summary
Emissions and climate effects due to the COVID-19 response
Monthly emissions and concentrations for the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and resulting society response. All scenarios should be compared to the input4MIPS SSP245 baseline https://esgf-node.llnl.gov/search/input4mips/
We provide sector and national emission files as well as the code to create them from mobility data in national_level_lockdown_analysis.zip. Sector csv files have aviation and shipping by nation. National csv files have international aviation and shipping as a separate nation. See https://github.com/Priestley-Centre/COVID19_emissions for more details. The calculations relating these to the emissions netcdf files can be found at https://github.com/rlamboll/2dCOVID19Emissions/ and is detailed in https://gmd.copernicus.org/preprints/gmd-2020-373/.
Description of files
Monthly emissions of aerosols and precursors are saved directly here, zipped folders contain GHG concentrations and NOx emissions from aviation for the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and resulting society response. All scenarios should be compared to the input4MIPS SSP245 baseline https://esgf-node.llnl.gov/search/input4mips/
Five scenarios are given for departures from the SSP2-4.5 baseline. The baseline is also provided for convenience, with timesteps available corresponding to both the 4-year blip and the 2-year blip. Scenarios depart from baseline after the start of 2020. Monthly concentrations of CO2, CH4 and N2O are provided over 2015-2050. For short-lived species emissions are provided for BC, CO, OC, SO2, NH3, NOx, & NMVOCs. Monthly values for years:2015,2019,2020,2021,2023,2030,2040 and 2050 are provided for the four scenarios and baseline (2-year blip, strong and moderate green recovery and fossil fuel recovery). For the 4-year blip nad 4baseline, the years are 2015,2019,2020,2021,2022, 2023, 2025, 2030,2040 and 2050. The SSP245 baseline is also available from the input4MIPS website.
NOx emissions from aviation is provided in a zipped folder, with monthly values for years:2015,2019,2020, 2021, 2022, 2023,2030,2040 and 2050. Two files have these years only, (corresponding to 2-year blip and baseline) and two have data for 2024 too (corresponding to the 4-year blip, or baseline for it).
Well-mixed greenhouse gas emissions are provided for North, South and global average concentration of CO2, CH4 and N2O for all months 2015-2050
