Summary

Argo temperature and salinity profiles are combined with ECCO-2 velocity profiles to estimate eddy diffusivity in the upper 2000 m of the global ocean. The dataset includes relevant intermediate parameters (mixing length, salinity standard deviation, salinity gradient, velocity standard deviation) in addition to eddy diffusivity. The dataset is available using 1° or 3° bins.

Notes

This dataset was processed as documented in Cole et al., 2015 (Eddy stirring and horizontal diffusivity from Argo float observations: Geographic and depth variability, Geophysical Research Letters, 42, 3989-3997, doi:10.1002/2015GL063827) and updated to include 1° and 3° versions as well as Argo data from 2005-2015. Diffusivity is estimated between 62°S and 62°N whenever the minimum number of profiles is met and the estimated mixing length does not exceed the designated threshold. These conditions vary by depth / density surface. The estimated eddy diffusivity exhibits variability with geographic location and with depth.

Much of the data past this point we don't have good examples of yet. Please share in #rdi slack if you have good examples for anything that appears below. Thanks!
